Daily Announcements

Please note: Labor Day falls very late this year, Monday Sept. 7th. Every district on Long Island is starting school on a different day which will effect bus transportation for your child. We use 15 different districts to transport our students. While I realize this may cause a hardship for my students who travel by bus, there is no possibility of selecting a first day of school that is convenient for all to receive transportation.

Considering the amount of snow days that we seem to be experiencing regularly as New Yorkers,
losing 4 instructional days by starting after Labor Day is not a prudent decision. I am confident that the majority of parents will be comfortable with my decision and see the value of starting early.

The first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 1st.

Dear Parents,

Beginning this spring, our students in grades 5 through 8 will partake in the nationally acclaimed social/emotional life skills program Second Step. Thanks to a grant given to the Rockville Centre Diocese, this program will address topics of problem solving, making friends, coping skills, decision making, managing emotions, controlling aggression, making good choices and ultimately designing a more inclusive environment whereby all children achieve social successes.

The teachers and I are excited to embrace this program with your children. If you wish to read further on this program please go to their web site www.cfchildren.org/secondstep.

Congratulations
to all our St. Patrick School students who participated in
the Ninth Annual Christian Art Exhibit at St. Martin de Porres Marianist School on
March 27th.
The theme this year was "Painted Prayers".

We were so proud of all our students!

Come listen to Kristen Canarutto (a published author) read her books and other children stories.

Watch for the reservation form in your child's backpack!

NYS testing for ELA Grade 4 and Grade 6 will be administered on Tuesday April 14, Wednesday April 15, and Thursday April 16. Please get plenty of sleep, eat a light breakfast, arrive on time, bring a #2 pencil and do your best!

The Diocese of Rockville Centre is committed to academic excellence and the physical and emotional health of our students. The current climate regarding state testing is putting undo pressure on parents and students.  We’ve chosen not to give tests from grades 3 – 8, but rather, for the sake of accountability to parents, the Diocese administers NYS tests in grades 4 and 6 in ELA and Math and in grades 4 and 8 in Science.

To be fair to students taking tests we do not allow students whose parents have chosen not to have their child take the tests to distract those who are taking them. There will be no special accommodations for students who opt out. Therefore, if a parent decides to keep their child home in the morning of the test because of the test, then the child will be marked absent for the morning and is expected to join his/her class after lunch.  If the test is administered in the afternoon, the child is to be picked up at the start of the lunch period and will be marked absent for the afternoon.

Pope Francis issued a letter for the Year of Consecrated Life, which will start throughout the universal Church on the first Sunday of Advent, 30 November. The observance will end on the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, 2 February 2016.

In his message, the Pope underlined the aims of the Year of Consecrated Life, namely to look to the past with gratitude, to live the present with passion and to embrace the future with hope.
